Quarter Review
WiPA accomplished a lot this quarter!
We continued our chats with female colloquium speakers. These amazing women shared their lived experiences as women in science and engaged in conversations with us about our own experiences. Look for more of these chats next quarter!
On November 14, we had our quarterly meeting with members. A psychologist from CAPS came to speak with us about healthy ways to deal with stress and the importance of self care. We also gave away some cool posters of women scientists and took a break from our work to mingle.
WiPA members met with Dean Paul Koch of Physical and Biological Sciences on November 28 to discuss the climate in the physics and astronomy departments. The Dean heard the voices and concerns from undergraduates and graduate students.
WiPA has also paired with SPS (Society of Physics Students) to create a mentoring program with undergraduates and graduate students. Mentee and mentors met at social and got to know each other. Since then, there have been workshops put on by graduate students to introduce undergraduates to skills needed for research. Topics have included how to start research, getting started with Linux, and how to use Latex.
Stay tuned for more with WiPA next quarter!
