The UC Santa Cruz Women in Physics & Astrophysics (WiPA) group was established as a networking and support group for the faculty, postdoc, graduate, and undergraduate communities - however it has developed into much more.

Our mission is to bring together everyone - not just women - interested in working toward a balanced and diverse community in physics and astronomy at UCSC and beyond. We host regular meetings, a mentoring program, and will be beginning outreach, workshops, and special events this year.

WiPA at UCSC was founded by Professor Tesla Jeltema in November of 2011. In 2012 Katie Hellier joined Professor Jeltema in expanding the group, organizing monthly meetings and a few special events. In January of 2015, UCSC hosted one of eight Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) reaching out to over 200 undergraduates, the organization of which was largely handled by WiPA.
